In His humanity, Jesus Christ was anointed and empowered by the Holy Spirit (Matthew 3:16; John 3:34).
The way followers of Christ progress toward holiness (Christ-likeness) is by that same Spirit manifesting
the character of Christ in and through us. Paul lists nine characteristics of a person who is “led by the Spirit:”
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:18, 22-23).
This is not a finite list, rather a list of contrasting character traits to the person who is controlled by the
flesh instead of the Spirit (Galatians 5:19-21).
